If you put it in a pressure pot, after stirring it, and as it's setting it gets rid of all of the bubbles! also, if you have a three to one ratio resin it causes less bubbles than a one-to-one ratio. It sets much slower but has less stirring involved ergo, less bubbles! Also, if you sand and polish the resin it turns less cloudy and will be absolutely gorgeous! I recommend watching Bens workx videos, he doesn't incredible stuff with wood and resin! Maybe you can get some ideas! I love this ax! It turned out beautiful!

for long items when i resin craft, i do them longways (horizontal) when i mold them to pour. like, instead of having the handle upright and thin, i would have it laid down on it's side, so that i can peek into the mold if i need to

    Get rid of bubbles
Use a resin made for deep pours
Apply the heat gun after mixing but before pouring. The heat is only to pop the bubbles, tou didnt need it to cast the wood.
Alsp next time, cast the handle horizontally instead of vertically, will help the bubbles rise out snd help you see them the heat gun them away.

One way to get rid of the bubbles is obviously vacuum sealing it, and than putting more epoxy on it, but you’d need a pretty tall vacuum chamber

I think (and this is really just a hypothesis) that this halberd was manufactured in large quantities judging by the seams, the ones he files off after sandblasting. It looks to me like it was made in a rush, almost to just make a bunch instead of concentrating on making one good blade.

    • Charles Laporte

      Charles Laporte

If you have a vacuum chamber and a pressure pot those can help reduce bubbles in the resin. Once mix place in a vacuum chamber, pour the epoxy, then place it into a pressure pot. Take off the cast and it should have less bubbles.
